Since it was founded in 1937, children have been the focal point of Plan International’s work. It is one of the oldest childrens’ aid organisations, and is active in more than 50 countries. It is committed to improving the living conditions of children and their families both long-term and sustainably – regardless of religion or politics.
It has been over a year since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine, causing dramatic suffering for many of its people. As a consequence, Plan International brought a Ukraine emergency aid programme into being, supporting both children and their families in the Ukraine, Poland, Moldavia and Rumania, as well as Germany. The focus of this wide-ranging emergency aid programme is on psycho-social support of children, since they are suffering most from the effects of war. In addition, there are both school and education programmes, as well as the distribution of mobile heating units, blankets, winter clothing and hygiene kits. Moreover, the organisation is fully committed to the implementation of UN Childrens’ rights, paying special attention to the protection and integration of displaced children and teenagers.
More than eight million people have fled the Ukraine into other European countries. With each passing war day, more lives are taken, homes and schools destroyed. The people need medical care, financial and psychological support.
REYHER condemns the attack on the Ukraine, but we do want to accept our own responsibility. This is why we already donated €50,000 each to Hanseatic Help and HSV Football for their Ukraine aid projects last year. This is also why we are now supporting Plan International’s Ukraine humanitarian emergency aid with the same sum.
